If I copy and paste something, I put the item in quotation marks and reference the source, usually with a hyperlink to the source from the applicable text and in the bibliography at the end of the blog post. If the text has no quotation marks, then that is me talking. I welcome comments, questions and criticism. I immediately delete foul language and insults. Threats will be reported and investigated with enthusiasm.
This is a brand new hobby for me but I do have some basis for thinking that I can write. I had two different professors in college say, in front of the class, that papers that I had written were some of the very best they had ever read in their careers. One time in junior high, I was unable to convince my teacher that I had written one of my papers myself and was actually punished for plagiarism. And I worked as a real estate appraiser for seven or eight years which was, essentially, writing reports for a living (probably did more harm than good).
I, like a lot of people I assume, have always thought of myself as a writer who just couldn't find the time to write. Now, I'm forcing the issue to see what happens. I've been writing more and more over the last couple of weeks to the point where I find myself writing to the exclusion of other activities. So, I don't know how long I'll be able to keep this up, especially without getting paid for it.
All of my writing so far has been typical blog commentary on the events of the day. I think that we are living in some of the most fascinating times in the history of the world. I don't really understand people who say they are not interested in the news or politics of the day I don't think anybody really wants to read about how many things I got done today or what time I went to bed last night.
At some point, I may try to produce some fiction. My life was actually greatly affected by a work of fiction: Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. But, I must say, that was probably the last fictional book I read and that was probably close to 20 years ago. However, that "paper" that I wrote in junior high that the teacher couldn't believe that I had written myself was fiction and I do have a vague impression of an unwritten novel and movie in my soul. All I can say about it is that it involves a small town by a lake with lots of big spreading shade trees, a bait shop, and creaking docks. There's a boy who meets a girl and uncovers a darker side to the small town by the lake...COMING SOON TO A THEATER NEAR YOU!!!
