Skiing

Me & my wife learned to ski the day before we got married in January of 2008 at Mt Rose, Nevada.  Since that day we've gone skiing every chance we get.  Mt Rose will always have a special place in our hearts .  We like Diamond Peak right up the road from there as well.  Heavenly, not so much.  Way too expensive and way too much time and work to get to the first lift.  No locker rooms either.
Here in Pennsylvania, Elk Mountain is our favorite so far.  I like Whitetail too, they have a high-speed lift.  Vermont has Killington which is great.

We had a bad experience at Stowe when we were still just beginners and we lost the money we spent on a 3-day lift ticket deal.  It was our first trip of our 2nd season and all they had open was one bunny slope and the big-boy slope that went along a narrow ridge with no safety netting or anything and a thousand foot drop-off.  We got real tired of the bunny slope and tried the big-boy trail.  We made it down alive but didn't have the nerve to try it again and they refused to give us any of our money back for the additional 2 days for which we had prepaid.

Speaking of ski resorts that suck.., Stowe SUCKS!  I do not understand why so many people like that place.  It cost us $20 to park a half mile from the lifts and there was no shuttle,  no locker rooms, no lodge at the base, trails were poorly marked and, if you were trying to avoid black diamonds, you had to do a ton of cross-country skiing to get down.  And there was no evidence of any attempt at grooming except maybe on the one main trail at the bottom.

Re. Colorado: We love Copper Mountain!  Loveland is nice too but their main lift freaks me out because it's so long, slow, high and there's no safety bar.

So, what's your favorite place to ski?  We're looking for places where it's easy to get from the parking lot to the lifts, that have locker rooms, lodges, and high speed lifts.  Places to avoid?
